Our Sisters In Spirit Vigil Day
Today is Our Sisters In Spirit Vigil Day – this is a movement for social change and is a day to honour the lives of missing and murdered Aboriginal women and girls.
As we work to build a compassionate city – an essential element of that work is about recognizing our past, understanding reality and reconciling with the truth. We cannot move forward to improve the lives of our citizens and young people if we do not reconcile with the truth.
As communities across Canada gather to recognize this national day of remembrance, I am very proud that the Sisters in Spirit Walk is taking place here in St. Catharines. Please join the Niagara Native Community and Indigenous Women of Niagara as we remember and honour missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls today at 5:30 p.m. at St. Catharines City Hall. There will be a Roll Call, Drumming and Vigil Walk.
Following the walk there is Our Sisters in Spirit – Free screening at The Film House – FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre at 7 p.m. Please reserve your ticket online or via Box Office
Today is about recognizing and remembering the mothers, sisters, daughters, friends, and loved ones, whose lives were cut short and whose promise will never be fulfilled.
Let us move forward in the spirit of truth and reconciliation, and as a community, remember their names, their stories, and their promise, and work together to build a better place for all women and girls and everyone to life safe, and free from violence and discrimination.
