Today, on #NationalHousingDay, I was proud to attend a groundbreaking ceremony for an innovative new affordable housing project in downtown St. Catharines by Bethlehem Housing and Support Services in partnership with Penn Terra and FirstOntario Credit Union. This project brings together the private sector and service agencies with government support to create much needed new affordable housing for families in our community. This project exemplifies the approach the federal government is taking in the just-announced National Housing Strategy – and we’re doing it right here, in St. Catharines – to help fill a growing need for decent, affordable places to call home. This is a great example of what a compassionate city can look like and how we can all work together to make sure everyone has a place in our community.

One more time, I’d like to thank the project partners for their vision and leadership to bring this new housing model to our community. Together we can show other cities who are dealing with similar challenges that with partners at the table, we can meet this challenge and help get more people into decent, affordable housing in our communities.
