National Housing Day

Nov. 22, 2017

Today is National Housing Day – an important opportunity to talk about housing and think about creative solutions to the housing challenges we are facing in our community and across the country.

The City of St. Catharines has developed a Housing Action Plan which focuses on what we can do as a city to support the creation of more affordable housing for our community.

As we await the details of the National Housing Strategy today from the federal government, we know we have to work together with all levels of government, with the development community, service agencies and landlords to tackle this issue. We all have a role to play to ensure that people have a decent, affordable place to call home and can afford to live in our great city.

I’m proud to support affordable housing and work together with partners to find innovative new ways to build affordable housing. I spoke about this with Bethlehem Housing and Support Services recently. Watch the video clip for more.

If you’re interested to be a part of a working group of developers and stakeholders who are working on this issue please contact my office: mayor@stcatharines.ca. Learn more about the Housing Action Plan at www.stcatharines.ca/HousingPlan
